There is a lot of discussion these days on what it means to be civil. Some people seem to think that all it takes is for everyone to mind their own business and not cause any trouble. Others believe that civility requires active engagement with others, both in seeking common ground and in standing up for what one believes in. I believe that the best way to be civil is to be aware of oneself and one's impact on the surroundings. This includes being mindful of how our words and actions can affect others, as well as taking care not to harm or disturb the environment we live in. It also means working together towards common goals, even when we don't agree on everything, and listening respectfully when someone else has something important to say.
We are all connected and our actions have an impact on each other. We think about others before ourselves and work together for the common good. We take care of each other, respect differences, and cooperate to solve problems.
Civil behavior is essential for a healthy society because it creates trust and cooperation among people who may not always agree with each other.
It's important to be civil because when people feel connected and part of something larger than themselves, they're more likely to act responsibly both individually and collectively. And when people feel respected and valued, they're more likely to contribute positively to their community.
