Success and Cognitive Biases

Successful people are successful because they have defeated themselves. They have removed the cognitive biases that keep them from achieving their goals.

Cognitive biases are the thoughts and beliefs that we hold about ourselves and the world around us. These biases can prevent us from achieving our goals, because we let them limit our thinking. For example, one cognitive bias is “self-handicapping”. This is when we put obstacles in our own way, so that if we fail, we can say it was because of the obstacle, not our lack of ability. This keeps us from trying new things or challenging ourselves, because we don’t want to risk failure.

Another common cognitive bias is “sunk cost fallacy”. This is when we continue with something – even if it isn’t working –because of all the time and effort we’ve already put in. We don’t want to waste all that time and effort, so instead of admitting defeat and moving on, we keep going even though it isn’t helping us achieve our goal.

Successful people know how to overcome these biases. They know that failure is a part of learning, and that you need to be willing to try new things in order to achieve your goals. They also know when it's time to move on, and they're not afraid of wasting time and effort.

So if you want to be successful, don't let your biases hold you back. Be willing to try new things, learn from your failures, and move on when it's time. With hard work and determination, you can achieve anything you set your mind to!
